His race began with a swim of 23:20, transitioning through T1 in 6:16 before settling into a bike leg that showed real strength in the middle miles a five-mile stretch was covered at a blistering 3:17/mile pace, translating to roughly 18 mph, briefly pushing him into the top 20 of his age group during that segment.
