A Strong Bike Surge Couldn't Offset a Tougher Run Justin Hicken completed the 2026 Spudman Olympic Triathlon in 4:39:43, a notable step back from his 3:47:03 finish at the same race in 2025. He came out of the water in 35:22, then settled into a bike leg averaging roughly 14.1 mph over the course. Midway through the ride, he was moving well enough to sit inside the top 350 in his gender divisionwell ahead of where he'd ultimately land by day's end. That momentum didn't carry into the run, where his pace steadily eased over the second half, a contrast to the sharper closing miles he produced last year. Transitions were efficient, though both ran a bit longer than in 2025. The bike remains Hicken's clear strength this season; sharpening run endurance and pacing consistency could help him close the gap back toward his 2025 form.
