Fast Water and Strong Legs Fuel a Hard-Earned Olympic Finish Kristie Alexander opened her Olympic-distance day with a real advantage in the Snake River current, punching out of the water in the top 5% of the women's field. She kept that momentum rolling into a brisk transition and settled into a bike leg that averaged roughly 13.6 mph, holding her position solidly inside the top 130 women through the ride and even splitting under 4:00/mile pace during the fastest middle miles. The run told a different story, with early miles around 9:09/mile giving way to a gradual fade toward 10:19 and eventually 13:02/mile pace as fatigue set in over the final 10K. She crossed the line in 3:14:46, finishing 162nd among women. With her swim and bike strength clearly established, targeted run endurance work could help her carry that early speed further into the back half of future Olympic-distance races.
