Strong Swim Sets the Tone in a Solid All-Around Effort John opened his Olympic-distance race with a standout swim, clocking 20:17 and landing 185th overall and 13th in his 25-29 age groupan early signal of strong aerobic conditioning. He carried that momentum into a well-paced bike leg, averaging roughly 16.5 mph over the course, which moved him into the top 100 overall at points along the ride before settling into a consistent rhythm through the back half. The run proved to be the toughest leg of the day, with pacing gradually settling into the 10:30-11:00 min/mile range, finishing in 36th for his division. Compared to his 2022 Spudman finish of 2:41:33, this year's 3:02:19 marks a step back in overall time, suggesting that run-specific endurance work could be a productive focus heading into future races to help close that gap.
