Strong Bike Split Powers a Mid-Pack Climb to a Top-10 Age Group Finish Hyrum Gibby closed out the Sprint Triathlon in 1:37:04, good for 53rd overall out of 570 finishers and 7th in the competitive 40-49 age group. His swim left him in 203rd place, but he used the bike leg to make a major move up the field climbing to 61st overall by the mid-bike point while averaging roughly 16 mph, a segment that ranked him as high as 2nd in his division at one stretch. That bike strength carried into T2, exiting in 97th overall. The run continued that momentum, with mile splits in the 8:088:37 range, helping him finish 58th overall off the bike and ultimately settle into 38th among men. The swim represents the clearest opportunity for Hyrum to close the gap on the field ahead of him, as his bike and run legs were both strong enough to move him up more than 140 spots combined over the back two-thirds of the race.
