Strong Swim Leads to Steady Bike and a Fast Closing Kick Blake Williams turned in a well-rounded Olympic-distance performance at Spudman, finishing in 3:21:52. He came out of the water in 22:36, good enough for 367th among men at that point a clear strength leg that set up the rest of his race. T1 took 5:44 before he settled into a bike leg that averaged roughly 16 mph over the rolling 24-plus mile course, with his fastest stretch clocking closer to 17.8 mph in the final miles before transition. On the run, Blake's early pace hovered around 12:05 per mile before dipping to 13:54 through the middle miles. He rallied down the stretch, closing out the final tenth of a mile at an explosive sub-5-minute pace to cross the line strong. Working on maintaining a more even run pace throughout the middle miles could help him carry that finishing speed further into the leg next time.
