Powerful Bike Leg Fuels Strong Mid-Race Surge Lisa Engel turned in a standout bike performance at Spudman, covering the 12.45-mile course at roughly 14.8 mph. This effort vaulted her from 9th to as high as 2nd in her 50-59 division during the ride, and she was inside the top 130 overall at the bike dismount a significant climb from her 186th position exiting the swim. The run proved to be the tougher leg of the day, with her pace settling in the mid-15:00s per mile, which allowed competitors to close the gap. She slipped from 3rd to 13th in her division across the run course, finishing 164th among 570 women overall. Her swim split was solid and efficient, and transitions were quick and clean. Building run fitness to match her cycling strength could help her hold those hard-earned bike gains through the finish line in future races.
