Powerful Bike Splits Anchor a Determined Olympic Finish Gary Rasmussen turned in a well-rounded performance at the 2026 Spudman Olympic Triathlon, using the Snake River's current to post a strong 32:21 swim before settling into a bike leg where he averaged nearly 13.8 mph. That average masked some real strength Gary hit a blistering 3:53/mile pace during two mid-ride segments, showing a great gear shift once he found his rhythm on two wheels. The run proved tougher to sustain, with Gary's pace drifting from a solid 13:15/mile early on to 14:26/mile over the final stretch. Tightening up that back-half fade could be a great focus for future training blocks building the endurance to hold his early run pace deeper into the race would pay dividends. Overall, a race marked by flashes of real speed on the bike and a chance to build more consistency off it.
