Fast Start Fades Into a Tough Back Half Finishing in 3:06:49, this outing marked the slowest of four Spudman appearances, trailing well behind a personal best of 2:35:43 set in 2023. Out of 1,987 participants, a 636th overall finish (518th male, 76th in the 30-34 group) reflected a race that started strong but lost steam late. The swim was a highlight, cracking the top 250 overall and top 25 in the age group. Early bike splits were similarly sharp cruising near 16.7 mph average and briefly climbing into the top 150 overall before pace and placement slipped through the back half of the ride. That fade carried into the run, where mile splits drifted from a brisk 10:23 pace early on to nearly 13:00 per mile late, dropping over 100 overall positions in the process. Building durability to hold power on the bike and pace on the run could unlock a faster finish next time out.
