A Mid-Race Surge Highlights a Hard-Fought Olympic Finish Keith opened with a steady 21:28 swim over the 0.86-mile Snake River course, then settled into a strong bike leg, covering the 24.4-mile ride in 1:28:02 an average of roughly 16.6 mph. The most striking stretch of the day came during the run, where between miles 26 and 30, Keith clocked the 2nd-fastest split of the entire field, both overall and in his gender division, covering that 4-mile segment in 39:49 (9:44/mile pace). Keiths total time of 2:57:31 was about 14 minutes slower than his 2023 Spudman finish of 2:43:12, with his overall placement holding steady in a larger field (1,987 vs. 1,775 participants). While the back half of the run cooled slightly after that dominant mid-race move, the strength shown in that stretch stands out as a clear high point of his day.
