Building Speed on the Bike, Closing Strong on the Run Katelin Johnson completed the Olympic distance at Spudman in 3:34:14, highlighted by a bike leg that got progressively faster as the ride went on. After opening near 13.8 mph through the first few miles, she settled into a strong rhythm, reaching speeds of 15.615.8 mph over the middle miles of the course before finishing the 24.4-mile ride at an overall pace of about 14.25 mph. Off the bike, Katelin's run showed a similar pattern of improvement. Her opening mile came in at 13:18, but she steadily tightened her pace into the 11:4711:53 range through the middle miles. She capped off the run with a strong final kick, dropping to a 3:25 pace over the last tenth of a mile before crossing the finish line.
