Steady Bike Power Fuels Another Strong Olympic Finish Brian Black returned to Spudman for his third appearance, finishing in 2:19:14 and placing 32nd overall out of 1,987 athletes, with a 5th-place finish in the competitive 40-44 age division. His bike leg stood out, averaging roughly 22.7 mph over the 23-mile ride, a pace that moved him up to 34th overall by T2 after a mid-pack swim exit. He also posted efficient transitions, spending just over 4 minutes combined in T1 and T2. Compared to his previous two Spudman outings, Brian's 2026 time was slightly slower than his 2:10:05 in 2022 and 2:14:36 in 2023, though his division placement matched his 2022 form better than his 7th-place finish in 2023. The run leg showed a gradual pace increase from 8:04 to 8:18 per mile in the closing miles, suggesting an opportunity to work on finishing speed in future races. Overall, a well-rounded performance anchored by strong cycling execution.
