Strong Bike Surge Fuels Steady Sprint Finish John Brassell completed the 2026 Spudman Sprint Triathlon in 2:00:52, finishing 253rd overall out of 570, 131st among men, and 23rd in the 40-49 age group. His bike leg was the standout of the day, averaging roughly 13.3 mph, with a mid-ride surge (miles 3.951.85) that briefly pushed him into the top 10 of his division. That strength carried into the run, where an early mile split had him clocking in as the 4th-fastest in his age group and 36th among all men at that point in the race. Areas to sharpen include T1, where he lost significant ground relative to competitors, dropping from 209th to 175th in gender rank during the transition alone. Tightening that changeover could help him convert his strong bike and run form into an even better overall finish next time.
